Who we are
TryAthletes is a visual content creation app for athletes. The data controller is Khyu Tkhan Nguyen (sole proprietorship / JDG), based in Poland. Contact: support@tryathletes.app
What data we collect
Account data — your email address, username, and display name when you create an account.
Activity data from Strava — activities you choose to import (such as distance, pace, duration, and route) pulled via Strava’s official API, only after you connect Strava and grant permission. We use this solely to generate your visuals; we do not store your detailed workout metrics as analytics.
Usage data — how you use the app (templates, stickers, tools, and filters used; images saved; screens viewed) to understand feature usage and improve the app.
Purchase data — records of subscription events (which plan, success or failure). We never see or store your card numbers or payment details; these are handled by Apple.
Diagnostic data — crash reports and error logs, including your device model, OS version, app version, and a masked form of your email (e.g. a***@gmail.com).
Why we collect it (legal basis)
Account data — to run your account (contractual necessity)
Activity data — to generate your visuals (contractual necessity)
Purchase data — to provide and manage your subscription (contractual necessity)
Usage and diagnostic data — to fix bugs, keep the app stable, and improve it (legitimate interest)
Advertising measurement — only where you allow it via Apple’s tracking prompt (consent)
Who we share data with
We use the following third-party service providers, some of which are based outside the EU:
Apple — in-app subscription billing
Google (Firebase) — app infrastructure, data storage, analytics, and crash reporting
Strava — activity data via API
AppsFlyer and Meta — to measure the performance of our advertising (see below)
Telegram — our team receives automated technical error alerts, which may include your account ID, display name, and masked email
For club subscriptions arranged directly with us outside the App Store, payments are processed by Stripe.
Each provider operates under its own privacy and security standards. Where data is transferred outside the EU, we rely on standard contractual clauses as the legal safeguard.
Advertising measurement
We use AppsFlyer and Meta to measure how well our ads perform (for example, whether a new user came from an ad). Your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) is only used if you tap “Allow” on Apple’s tracking prompt — if you decline, we do not use it. We do not sell your personal data.
Location
We do not collect GPS coordinates or route location for analytics. Our analytics provider (Google) may derive an approximate country or city from your IP address as part of standard analytics.
Data retention
We keep your account and usage data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data from our systems within 30 days. Diagnostic data and data already shared with advertising or analytics providers are retained according to those providers’ own retention periods, which we do not control. Anonymized, aggregated statistics may be kept indefinitely.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from Edit Profile → Delete account in the app. This removes your account and associated personal data from our systems within 30 days and disconnects Strava. Data already shared with third parties (such as Apple, Google, or Meta) is subject to their own retention and deletion policies.
Your rights (GDPR)
If you’re in the EU, you have the right to:
Access — request a copy of the data we hold on you
Correct — ask us to fix inaccurate data
Delete — request deletion of your account and data
Export — receive your data in a portable format
Object — object to processing based on legitimate interest
Withdraw consent — turn off ad tracking at any time in your device settings
To exercise any of these rights, email support@tryathletes.app. We’ll respond within 30 days.
Children
TryAthlete is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
What we do not collect
Your card numbers or payment details
Your full email address (we store only a masked form for diagnostics)
The content of the photos you pick (we only record whether a photo or a transparent background was used)
Your contacts, calendar, or photo library
Passwords in readable form
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If changes are significant, we’ll notify you by email or in-app. Continued use of TryAthlete means you accept the updated policy.
